Jessie Mae Speakes, 92, of Green Acre Lane, Cartersville, passed away Wednesday afternoon, Oct. 31, 2007, at Heartland Hospice.
Mrs. Speakes was born Dec. 3, 1914, in Warrior, Ala., daughter of the late George Washington Kaley and Maude Creel Kaley. She was a homemaker and was a very active member of the Church at Liberty Square where she was involved with prayer and counseling, Feed the Needy and the Care Program. She was an active Sunday School teacher for many years and was a volunteer at Immanuel Broadcasting. Mrs. Speakes was preceded in death by her husband, John L. Speakes, and by a granddaughter, Linda Ashley Shultz.
Survivors include her daughters and sons-in-law, Linda Jefferies and the late Kenneth Jefferies and Nelda and Tom Shultz; grandchildren, Todd and Sunni Jefferies, Eric and Hayden Jefferies, Kaley and Bryan Akins, Shannon and Todd Conway, Matt and Stephanie Shultz and Whitney Shultz Dailey; great-grandchildren, Aaron Roper, Chelsea Roper, Cole Jefferies, Morgan Jefferies, Cason Jefferies, Nathan Akins, Caden Conway, Sydney Shultz, Austin Shultz, Allison Dailey and Katlyn Dailey. A number of nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services will be conducted Saturday morning, Nov. 3, at 11 a.m. in the Owen Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Joe E. Edwards officiating. Interment will follow in Sunset Memory Gardens.
The family will receive friends Friday evening from 5 to 9 p.m. at Owen Funeral Home.
Active pallbearers include grandsons and include Todd Jefferies, Eric Jefferies, Matt Shultz, Bryan Akins, Todd Conway and Aaron Roper.
