Democrats are for Retreat and Surrender!
In her recent article to The Daily Tribune a local democratic activist Ms. Beryl Fangue-Wallen goes on a diatribe about how the war in Iraq has been a waste of money and that we should have never been there in the first place. She goes on to site the issues that our veterans (I’m a former Marine myself) are dealing with like PTSD and the loss of limbs. What does Ms. Fangue-Wallen’s picture of victory look like? Is it complete surrender and the country of Iraq reseeding into violence and anarchy? Would this make the world a better place?
Had FDR had this mentality in WWII there is no telling what this country would be like now. Why is it that the Democrats of this country cannot come to terms with the fact that after 9/11 the primary mission of President Bush was to keep this country safe from further attack. The fact that this country has not been struck by terrorists again is inescapable and our global war on terrorism is the primary reason why. Ms. Fangue-Wallen would have us turn over our sovereignty to the United Nations and have us ask for permission to defend ourselves.
No one wants to see our men and women be injured in battle but I thank God that there are still patriots in this country who wear the uniform of America in its defense. How much money did we spend on WWI, WWII & the Cold War? Was that worth it? It is time that these pacifist bleeding heart democrats who would love to see us defeated in Iraq finally get the message that this war against Islamic Fascism transcends party and cuts to the very core of America’s security.
The sad irony of it all is that if President Bush had acted like the democrats have suggested and not sought to protect this country then there is a high probability that we would have been attacked again. These same people would be complaining for not acting in this nation’s defense. Ms. Fangue-Wallen like their speechifying upstart candidate Obama offers rehashed rhetoric with little substance.
Obama will bring change to Washington and it will come at the cost of your liberty, freedom and the strength of the Constitution. The democrats have been pushing a Socialist agenda for years and they have finally found Marx in a young Senator from Chicago. A vote for the democrats in this election is a vote against America and the eroding of what our founding fathers sought to build in this Republic.
Real change comes through the hard work of individual Americans in their private capacity not through handouts and government bureaucracy.
At the end of the day wouldn’t you rather be an Elephant than an ASS!

Do you support a national draft? I think that it would honor the troops by giving needed support and insure eventual victory. FDR had it for WWII and LBJ had it for Vietnam.. seemed like good idea then (by some anyway). I might even suggest that those who are pro Iraq War and anti-draft are for an eventual defeat and surrender policy. What do you think?
I don’t think a national draft is needed at this point. We have had an all volunteer military for a long time and it has served this country well. I do think we need expansion of the size of the Army and Marine Corps but it does not to come through conscription.
A volunteer military works in peace time but not in a long-haul war like the one in Iraq. We dishonor Army soldiers by giving them 15 month combat tours in Iraq. A national draft would alleve the stress of their service. It is sad but we are turning our military into a mercenary organization. You can catch my thoughts on this on my blog.

I served during the initial Gulf War time period and I think you are missing the point completely. Most of these guys want to finish the job and feel cabable of doing it. It dishonors them to minimize what they are accomplishing in Iraq.
I served for 3 years during the Vietnam conflict and my son has done 2 combat tours in Iraq.. we both have a different perspective from yours.
I don’t think that you read my post.. the military is becoming a mercenary organization that is much different from when you and I served. We are paying mercenary organizations like Blackwater (through he nose!) because we don’t have enough troops on the ground. A national draft would alleviate the need for Blackwater and reduce the stress on over used combat soldiers.
Really, do you support 15 month combat tours? How does that honor the troops and their families? I cannot understand where you are coming from.
I would think as a Vietnam Era Vet you would understand more than anyone that conscripted soldiers / Marines who do not want to fight only make things worse. Putting these people in combat with our professional fighting troops would be a nightmare. I for one want to see us keep our all volunteer service. One of the primary reasons for the long deployments is that politically we cannont get additional troops over to the combat theater. We could have a whole division of Marines ready to leave right now and the Democrats would block them from going over to help. This is not a numbers problem as much as it is a problem of the Democratic party selling this country out for short term political gain.
I think that you and I just come at the war and the military from different places Matt.
Thinking outside of the box for a minute.. maybe “conscripted” soldiers (like I was) could be used in support positions and not in the front lines. The Israelis have one of the best military forces and everyone is required to serve their country.. I think that you can make it work if you get outside the box.
You seem to have bought the Bush rhetoric about the Democrats.. I just don’t think that it is all that simple.. Iraq is a quagmired mishandled mess.. and that is on Bush’s shoulders.. the Dems didn’t fight Him early on when the war was so mishandled. Most Americans don’t think that we should be there because an end game strategy doesn’t seem to be in place.. and that is on Bush’s shoulders not the Dems.
I guess that is the real question.. what is our end-game in Iraq. Apparently you are optimistic and feel that Iraq will step up to the plate some time in the future and become a free nation. I am not optimistic and don’t think that a deomocratic government will survive no matter how long we stay the course.
My son tells stories about how Iraqi police and soldiers refused to go out with them on anti-insurgeant missions. When I look at Iraq I do not see a people passionate for freedom … they seem to be playing us … they want to guilt us into staying the course … seemingly forever.
This is the reason McCain won’t get elected.. the Iraq War has damaged the Republican party beyond immediate repair.. we lost the Congress a year ago.. the war has opened big doors for Democrats who also don’t have answers but come across as anti-Iraq-War and people buy it.. it just saddens me that all the good stuff about the party has been sacrificed by Bush on the altar of Iraq
Well, thanks for the dialog. I am interested in your take on the military turning mercenary.. why you think it is or isn’t.. but I understand if you don’t want to discuss.
All the best, Bob
PS: As a Christian I think that it is sad that so many Christian soldiers die for a land that does not allow them to wear a cross.. a land who persecutes missionaries.. and a land who appears to be so anti-Christ and anti-Christian.. again it just makes me sad. I wonder how many Muslim Americans have enlisted to fight in this war?
